Charlie Judy dreams of HR understanding finance
If you have read this blog for any amount of time, it won’t come as a huge surprise when i say that sometimes my brain takes me off on wild tangents, and that’s just when I’m awake and walking around. You should see what happens in my dreams. Wait, maybe you shouldn’t…
I have to share this one dream though. It was actually a series of three dreams. Charlie Judy was involved. No, it wasn’t THAT kind of dream.
It was a series of episodic dreams in which Charlie was discussing how important it is that HR professionals understand the numbers of business, and some of the technical aspects of finance.
It’s likely that my dreams derived from knowing it is our annual budget time at work. Research shows that much of what we dream about comes from our recent experiences. Basically, we dream about the stuff that is impacting us in real life. This is how our sleeping brain sorts the clutter from real life.
Anyway, after the third visit from Charlie, I woke up and turned to Facebook to perform an exorcism of this ghostly financial guru who was haunting my dream. I posted something like this:
“Charlie Judy, stop talking to me in my dreams about the importance of EBITA. There’s no need for you to work this hard. I got it!”
Of course, Charlie showed up page the next day in real life to remind that it is actually EBITDA, and that I probably still had a little bit more to learn about finance and HR.
As usual, Charlie is right. I would listen to him If I were you.
