Outside the mainstream

Last night, I watched the latest epic in a never ending stream of really bad movies that show up on the SyFy channel on Saturday night.  The latest gem was something entitled “Two Headed Shark Attack”.  Twice the bite and twice the suck. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. On the off chance that your taste in Saturday entertainment fare is as bad as mine, here is the general plot and cast info from IMDb.

Survivors escape to a deserted atoll after a Semester at Sea ship is sunk by a mutated two-headed shark. But when the atoll starts flooding, no one is safe from the double jaws of the monster as it eats fresh delicious women and men.

Director: Christopher Ray

Writers: Edward DeRuiter (story)H. Perry Horton(screenplay)

Yeah baby!  Carmen Electra, well..ummm, she actually played the matronly chaperone to a bunch of nubile young college students who all scream a lot and get eaten, which happens to pretty much….everybody, including the other less famous O’Connell brother.
I watched this epic loser for two reasons.  I knew I could catch the new Dr. Who episode “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” via on demand, and I am not a huge fan of college football, or football in general.   The teams that I do root for on College football weekends had already played and won their games. (Michigan, Michigan State, and Florida).   So I spent my Saturday evening home in front of stupid scifi.
Being outside the mainstream leads to noticeable behavior, and exchanges like this:
I’m not sure why it surprises me, but Carmen Electra is starring in a Syfy movie that is on right now called “Two Headed Shark Attack”
Carl Brickman Michael, you’re obviously not a college football fan…

Different strokes for different folks, as they say.    Some of us have to be that way, and all of us our Less than mainstream about something.  This is an important thing for leaders to remember and recognize. Where are you “outside the mainstream”, and how do you spend your time when almost everyone else is occupied by that mainstream event?  I’d love to hear from you.
