Potential applicants: “Screw that buddy, If you are gonna post on social media, we expect a response!
This is something that actually happened on one of my LinkedIn group for Labor and Employee Relations. It’s worth a mention to both internal and external recruiters.
Among the comments were:
“Has **** responded to anyone?”
“I didn’t receive any answer for ****. Someone know why?”
Perhaps, the most telling comment was this one from a senior HR pro with an SPHR:
“Really makes you wonder about the validity of such posts and why they are allowed in LinkedIn. Should the person who originated the post be banned from this group?”
So what made this situation so much different than the million other job postings on LinkedIn and elsewhere where the non-responsive recruiter fails to contact perspective clients?
In this case, a company recruiter from the company that the recruiter was working for stepped in and responded to the interested people and the complainers. Check this:
Hello all:
I believe this is a posting by an agency for openings I am looking to fill for ****** at three of our distribution centers. We have openings in Las Vegas, Phoenix and Philadelphia. Our openings occurred due to a retirement (LV), promotion (Philly) and new building (Phoenix). We do require experience in a union environment and the ability to relocate in the future for promotional opportunities.
Please let me know if you have any other questions and please feel free to contact me directly ****** or give me a call at ***** EST. I sincerely apologize for their not getting back to you.
Sincerely,
******* *****
Manager of Talent Acquisition
I’m not divulging names of any involved parties because I’m not out to embarrass anyone. I just thought this was a really good response by the employer, as well as a thought provoking lesson for others to see. I wouldn’t want to be the recruiter explaining to this company why they had to come along and clean this mess on my behalf.
Just another example of why old approaches like “post and pray”, and “don’t call me, I’ll call you” don’t work in a social media era.

Haha, great story. I hate it when people don’t respond so I make sure I respond asap.
Good for you, Kevin!
