Chicken sandwiches, cartoons and puppets

Okay, I wasn’t going to do it, but it turns out I am.

Chik fil A. I know, I know.

Politically incorrect views from the company for many people who are posting scathing remarks on the company website.

Conservative Christians lining up to support a good Christian business with the right kind of American family values.

I think both sides should get over themselves.

I think America can aspire to be a country where gay people can get married, and where people of any religion can buy the sandwich of their choice, with or without chicken. That is the kind of America I want to live in.

I’d also like to live in an America where children’s cartoon charactes

Bert & Ernie Cover of Bert & Ernie

aren’t drawn into these debates.

I don’t know if Bert and Ernie are gay. I don’t care.

I’m glad that the Muppets took a stand consistent with their beliefs, but I wish people would just leave the Berenstein Bears alone. Let’s not forget, they are just cartoons after all, and not really responsible for what they say and do.

It truly makes me sad to realize that we have been down this road before, and haven’t learned anything. Remember this?

He is purple; the gay-pride color. His antenna is shaped like a triangle; the gay pride symbol. Tinky Winky is gay ~ Jerry Falwell

C’mon people, put down the puppets and back away. Go do something meaningful.

And stop trying to tell everybody else how they should live their lives. Please.

Full disclosure: I support gay marriage, the rights of companies to take positions on certain issues, and my own ability to spend my money at those places whose beliefs align with my own.
