If you want to read a great up to moment post on the transformative status of social media at SHRM, you should go read this post by China Gorman.
One of the new pieces of the conference experience at the SHRM Conference this year is the social media community area known as the Hive, sponsored by the very fine folks at Dice. The Hive is basically an area to go and meet HR practitioners who know social media. You can get tips, set up a Twitter account, or just talk tech with some of the best in the business. It’s an ambitious concept, and I was curious to see how it worked in execution.
I have had a couple of opportunities to sit in the Hive and interact with visitors. So far, it has been both rewarding and fascinating. Most of the questions I have answered were focused on Twitter, and how it can be used more effectively as a business tool. The Hive setting uses a genius bar setup like you would see at an Apple store that seems to add an air of legitimacy to the entire process of educating people on the nuances of using social media.
People have been openly curious and engaged in their learning. So far, the Hive looks like a big success. More to come soon.
