Help Wanted: Crowdsourcing some questions for my HR Florida Panel

by Michael VanDervort on August 23, 2010 · 24 comments

I need your help with moderating a panel next week

Next week, I am going to be moderating a panel of really smart people at the HR Florida State Conference.     We are going to be talking about why it is becoming increasingly critical for human resources professionals to have at least a general understanding of social media in today’s ever changing business environment.

Topics already on the agenda include:

  • New social media issues that HR needs to be aware of
  • The positives and negatives of the “real time” web to employers
  • How social media is impacting communication in your organization
  • Using social media to build a powerful virtual network of HR contacts
  • How you can protect your employment brand using social media

So here is my question for you.  If you could ask my panel of smart people a question about social media, what would it be?    Leave your question in the comments, and if I use it, I’ll make sure you get credit in the #HRFL10 Twitter stream as a consulting expert!

Oh, who is are the smart people on the panel?   You may know a couple of them:   Steve Boese, Trish McFarlane,  Franny Oxford, Mark Stelzner,  and William Tincup.    I think they might know a little bit, so get your questions in right away!

What would you say to your CFO who asserts that social media has minimal to no impact on the balance sheet?

What would you say to your CEO when she asks you to name three Fortune 1000 CEOs who blog?

What is your opening line in your presentation to the Board of Directors of Florida’s largest public company about the impact of social media on revenue, brand and profit?

These are great questions, Steve, especially the Board of Directors question.

If your workplace is on SM lock down how do you regulate mobile usage and if you found someone posted during work time from a personal mobile device how should it be addressed?

@Karla – thanks for wracking your brain to come upwith something! I’ll definitely throw that one out there.

@Jeff – I’ll ask that for sure, if I can manage to fiund the time! @LisaRosendahl tweeted me to ask t=something similiar.

@Chris – I am not not sure if that question is worth asking, what is the ROI on the answer? No, seriously, I’ll try to get some insight on that as well. It is a tough one, still.

Thanksto evryone who tweeted suggestions as well!

Most HR professionals are extremely busy and fear the use of social media will be time consuming. What do you recommend as a starting point that takes the least time out of an already busy schedule, but delivers bang for the buck? Follow up, how has social media helped save you time or provide you with resources in your role as an HR practitioner, can you give some specific examples?

What has been your biggest work challenge regarding social media and how did you handle it?

ROI is always something we are asked to looking at – thoughts on social media measurement? This seems easier to measure for recruiting, but what about general HR?

Thanks Mike, this should be an outstanding conference. Wish I could be there, but look forward to following the Twitter stream.

Mike:

How about, How have you used social media to increase employee engagement in your organizations?

When an employee becomes out of control on social media, what disciplinary action do you take. Do you address the one employee or cut off the entire company from social media? Why? Is this even HR’s job to determine?
