John, the more I work with people from SHRM, the more I realize that it is important to be a part of the group, as well as an advocate for new ideas. I sent my application to the Labor Relations expertise panel day before yesterday with help from Bob LaGow.

Mike, good post. I applaud your commitment to get involved with SHRM from the inside. I think that the was things are, SHRM’s change will come from the members asking for new things and new ways of tackling the old things. I agree that more has to be done to educate HR practioners and volunteer leaders on how to use social media more effectively in there job and with their leadership roles. SHRM has started in that area and it is up to members to make sure it is carried out.

Mike, great post and I will do all I can to support your efforts. Most align with the professional goals I am pursuing in the next 12 months that include a new, revamped HRevolution for 2011 (headed back to basics), several new writing projects, stronger strategic alliances with organizations that can help make a difference, and a closer relationship with SHRM national and getting involved in state SHRM chapters. Can’t wait!
