A year of influential experiences – January 2009

Jumping on the Influence Bandwagon

2009 was a very interesting and awesome year for me personally.    I will recap the year in a series of posts starting with January 2009, along with sharing some  of my thoughts.

January 2009

I was able to attend the 2009 Employer of Excellence Conference as a guest of HR.com.  The conference was sparsely attended, and I have yet to see a similar event scheduled for 2010.   Still, I got to make several interesting connections including Erin Gruwell, Kenny Moore, and Libby Sartain.  We are now both members of the Smartbrief on Workforce advisory council.

I was also privileged to attend a unique event, a program that was developed and is conducted by Roger Nierenberg, a Julliard graduate, and former conductor of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in Florida, and the Stamford Symphony in New England. He was also featured in Fast Company.  I hope that this event returns later this year. It was worthwhile to attend.

I also met Sharlyn Lauby and Keith Lauby in 2009.  We had dinner and she invited me to be a part of the blogging team that would attend the HR Florida state conference in August 2009.

Each of these contacts influenced my thinking in 2009.  The most influential was Sharlyn.  She not only opened doors for me here in Florida with the state SHRM group, she also became my friend.  I am thankful to have had the opportunity to get to know her this year.
