6 job recommendations that didn’t make it to the Obama jobs summit

President Obama needs our help!

President Obama stated at the outset of his Jobs Summit that he is open to any all ideas about how to create jobs for the United States soon.

Here are 5 irreverent suggestions for creating job opportunities that I doubt were submitted at the conference yesterday, but deserve at least a moment of consideration.  (although probably not much more!)

How to create new jobs in America

  1. Create a new series of government run reality shows.  Many people aspire to be the stars of reality tv shows.   We have to jump on these innovative start-ups early to maximize and support growth career fields.   The first show up could be “Gatecrashers: Washington DC” since there is a lot of free pub already out there.
  2. Eric Schmidt should consider expanding the ways that Google Earth needs to portray all the cities and tons of the Earth.  Just imagine the thrills when  we can get access to “Jogger view” and “Beagle View” and “Bedroom view at Tiger’s House”  on our smart phones.  Google could create millions of jobs for contractrs to video all the nooks and crannies of the USA and upload these files.  This doesn’t even take into account sudden increases in demand for Flip cams and hiking shoes.  This is a biggie!
  3. The US should nationalize the In-and-Out burger chain and make them open stores in all 50 statres.   This would help create opportunities for all those people who say things like “I’d flip burgers before I would ever go on unemployment!   We need more burger flipping opportunities desperately.
  4. We need to up the number of personal tour guides that are available at all our national parks and monuments.  It may be a “I work for tips” career, but people make a decent living doing this in many other countries.  The government also gets free from permit fees.  A double win.
  5. I am pretty sure that California is going to become the first US haven for stoners in the next couple of years.  They are always the innovative, leading edge driver of new trends, and they are starving for new tax revenue streams.   Look for a burgeoning budtender market in Cali by 2012.
  6. eHarmony could be leveraged into a government directed acquisition with TARP funds and start employing all the out of work staffing managers and recruiters.  This idea is submitted by noted career strategist and wanna-be yenta, Karla Porter.  Karla notes that with all the embarrassing relationship disasters and high divorce rate in America I think unemployed Recruiters should hang shingles as “match makers”.. forget the emotion, WE know that “fit” and “match” are where retention is really at.  Unemployed HR could be onboarding and retention coaches!” Genius!

In the end Mikey, we could save the country and preserve the American way. We could end up being responsible for reducing the national debt through the elimination of dead beat dads, make the Catholic Church happy with the increased unification of family and reduce unemployment by ensuring all Recruiters and HR peeps have jobs.

Have you shared your ideas with President Obama yet?

Leave them in the comments and I will make sure to pass them along to my dude at the White House!

You win the coveted @HRMargo award for the funniest post of the week. #1 was so funny. Just think how we’d have to really up our game if we had to participate in reality show contests instead of job interviews to secure our next position. I’m putting on my “scary game face,” just in case. Word to gate crashers: we are so on to you now-enjoy loserville-looks like you’re going to be spending a lot of time there.

Mike, thanks for making me smile.

Hey Krista – feel free to share my ideas and any of our own with the White House. When we do the Jobs un-Summit, we are going to have to decide if President Obama is worthy of being invited or not.
