Visiting Washington DC

From Drop Box

I am in Washington DC for the next couple of days attending the 3rd annual ABA Labor and Employment Law Annual CLE Conference. This event focuses on all aspects of labor and employment law.

One of the cool things about this conference is that it provides an opportunity to interact with legal practitioners representing plaintiffs, employers, and unions, as well as in-house counsel, academics and government lawyers.  According to the brochure, the Conference also offers the opportunity to learn about government initiatives from agency representatives, to observe government hearings and meetings, and to attend receptions and events at some of our nation’s most beautiful landmarks.

I am looking forward to interacting with other labor relations professionals and taking advantage of some of the unique aspects of a conference in Wahington DC.  I’ll be putting up some posts about stuff covered at the event.

Networking in Washington DC

Hanging out in DC offers some great networking opportunities as well.    Since being here left me unable to attend Kennedy/Onrec and the epic Seiden/Ruettiman FailSpectacularly event in Chicago, or HRevolution this weekend in Lousville, I made up for it by having a mini-tweetup with Mark Stelzner and Jessica Lee at the Capitol City Brewing Company last night.  They had some nice micro-brewed beers.  I tried the Amber Waves Ale.  Stelzner had the Prohibition Porter.    Oh yeah, I also got to chat with China Gorman by phone

The company was stellar. The conversation scintillating, and as usual, hanging with smart people got me thinking.   I will be posting on those thoughts in the next couple of days.    The working title of the post is “Human Resources – the most knowledgeable profession”.
